This socially responsible jewelry brand that supports female entrepreneurs in Uganda has released a super-cute Christmas collection – with prices starting from less than $10 (and even Lizzo is a fan)
If you’d like to buy something meaningful for your friends this Christmas, you need to check out the latest collection by jewelry brand Zena.
Not only are the pieces full of personality, but each purchase directly benefits women in Uganda. All of Zena’s cute pendants, statement ear-rings and attention-grabbing ear cuffs are made by women working hard to escape poverty and save the capital to start a new business.
When women are employed in the Zena studio creating the brand jewellery, 40 per cent of their earnings go towards a living wage and 60 per cent is saved to accumulate to become their start up fund. So far, Zena has lifted 200 women out of debt and paid for 45 people to attend school.

The brand has caught the attention of celebrities including Lizzo who posted a photo to Instagram of her wearing the Zena Star Top Down Ear-Rings at a Harry Styles concert a few weeks ago.
And back in November, Gemma Styles wore the Zena Sustainable Iconic Hoops to the GQ Heroes dinner in the UK where she spoke on sustainability in light of COP 26.
Zena jewelry is not only fun, sustainable and celeb-approved, but it’s also pleasingly affordable. The Top Down Ear-Rings sported by Lizzo cost just $22 while Gemma’s Iconic Hoops are $27.
The brand has also released a few new festive pieces for the holiday season. The theme of the newest collection is music, dancing and disco with some gorgeous Mic Drop Ear-rings that looks like a mini vinyl placed above a star.

Or if you’d prefer something slightly more subtle, there’s a cute cuff for just $9.50. This can be worn on its own around the ear or layered up with the stars for extra impact.
And one of the best value items is the disco necklace that has a secret message on the back, which means you get two looks in one for just $24.
Marketed for fun times and fun people, these pieces make perfect Christmas gifts for your pals who like to make the most out of every day and care about the people and planet around them.

Women in Uganda have started their own businesses and attended school after working with Zena for a few years
Another element that separates Zena from other jewelry brands is the use of cattle horn in the pieces, which is a byproduct of the meat industry that would normally be discarded and burned as waste.
Caragh Bennet, co-founder of Zena, said: ‘What we love about our business is that we don’t do hand-outs and we don’t do debt.
‘Women who graduate from Zena do so from a place of strength, they know they started their businesses themselves, they have the confidence to know they don’t owe anyone anything.’
